Description: An orange quartzite pointed handaxe of classic form, some smoothing of the surface through exposure to desert winds and with a semi-glossy patina, and a nice example. Recovered from the Idehan Marzug dune field, southwest Libya, close to the border with Chad.

Size: 132 mm/5.2 ins. in length

Date: c. 250,000-300,000 years B.P.

Provenance: Reputedly bought to England by a British soldier who served in North Africa during the Second World War, who obtained it from Bedouin traders.
