Description: A red quartzite pointed handaxe of classic tear-drop form, with some abrasion of the surface due to exposure to desert winds and with a dull patina. Recovered from the Idehan Marzug dune field, southwest Libya, close to the border with Chad.

Date: c. 250,000-300,000 years B.P.

Provenance: Reputedly bought to England by a British soldier who served in North Africa during the Second World War, who obtained it from Bedouin traders.
