An Egyptian banded alabaster pyxis, c. 1st - 3rd Century B.C.

Code: 2090

£895.00
Description: A banded alabaster pyxis with squat conical body, flat base, two small pierced side lugs and lid, possibly not belonging. The lid with pierced top lug. Some inoffensive wear to the base, rim, lid lug, and to the underside of the lid but a very nice example.

Size: 88 mm/3.5 ins. high and 87 mm/3.4 ins. in diameter across the base.

Culture: Egyptian

Date: Ptolemaic Period, c. 1st - 3rd Century B.C.

Provenance: Ex West Sussex private collection. Reputedly found in Israel where it was acquired by a previous collector. If so, probably an imported ware as locally made alabaster vessels tend to be less fine. Supplied with previous collector’s notes.
