Code: 2336

SOLD
Description: A pale inky blue faience amulet of Re-Horakhty wearing the solar disc, striding forwards, his arms by his sides, with back pillar pierced for suspension below the shoulder. Complete and undamaged and a well-modelled example.

Size: 24 mm/0.9 in. high

Culture: Egyptian

Date: Late to Ptolemaic Period, c. 600-30 B.C.

Provenance: From the collection of Julian Bird (1959-2014).

Background: Julian Bird was a passionate collector of Egyptian antiquities, who built up a fine and extensive collection from the 1970s onwards. He sourced his items mainly from the UK market, from specialist dealers, fairs, markets and auctioneers. He was a model collector, carefully documenting his collection, although unfortunately we do not have his notes for this particular item.

In our opinion rather better than the photographs might suggest.
