Description: A blue-green faience amulet depicting a couchant ram with loop for suspension on back. Some wear to the glaze particularly on one side, but otherwise undamaged and a nice example.
Size: 21 mm/0.8 in. in length
Culture: Egyptian
Date: Late Period, 1st Millennium B.C.
Provenance: From the collection of Julian Bird (1959-2014) and acquired at Lockdales, Ipswich, Fine Art Sale (Auction 104), on 19 June 2013, as part of Lot 1138.
Background: Julian Bird was a passionate collector of Egyptian antiquities, who built up a fine and extensive collection from the 1970s onwards. He sourced his items mainly from the UK market, from specialist dealers, fairs, markets and auctioneers. He was a model collector, carefully documenting his collection, but we do not have his notes for this particular item.
