A Late Bronze Age copper alloy socketed axehead, c. 900-800 B.C.

Description: A copper alloy facetted socketed axehead similar to Meldreth in type, the blade gently flaring to the cutting edge and with a pronounced thickened collar, sub-circular mouth, and single loop. The axe is unfinished with pronounced casting seams and the cutting edge unsharpened. Extensive greenish encrustation and a small irregular hole below the collar on one side, otherwise condition good. Locality of find not known but British (probably from southern or southeastern England).
