Description: A slender pale green faience ushabti with details added in black. The figure wears a black tripartite wig and with arms crossed on chest although no tools discernible. The wig and buttocks are modelled on the back. A short vertical inscription in black on the front which may read D(d) mdw (in) […] possibly reading ‘recitation by […]’. Complete with overall surface wear, some inoffensive chips, and repaired breaks above the feet and at the knees, and some minor encrustation. Probably Lower Egyptian.

Provenance: From the collection of Julian Bird (1959-2014), acquired from an antique dealer on the Portobello Road, London, in 2007.
Background: Julian Bird was a passionate collector of Egyptian antiquities, who built up a fine and extensive collection from the 1970s onwards. He sourced his items mainly from the UK market, from specialist dealers, fairs, markets and auctioneers. He was a model collector, carefully documenting his collection, and his notes on this particular item will be supplied to the buyer.
