Description: A squat lekythos in lustrous black glaze ware, a row of impressed linked palmettes on the shoulder. Some small inoffensive chips to the rim, some minor wear to the glaze and extensive thin encrustation on the base, otherwise condition good and a very nice example, Greek South Italian Colonies.
Size: 77 mm/3 ins. high and 82 mm/3.2 ins. in diameter at the base
Culture: Greek
Date: c. 4th Century B.C.
Provenance: Ex Essex private collection.
Notes: This vessel has a very narrow aperture below the rim, suggesting it once held expensive oil, the narrow aperture would minimise spillage and loss if the vessel was overturned.
