A North American Indian Archaic stemmed point

Code: 2540

SOLD

Description: A triangular brown flint stemmed point, a possible body chip on one side but a nice example.

Size: 48 mm/1.9 ins. in length

Culture: American Indian

Date: Probably Archaic, c. 8000-4500 years B.P.

Provenance: Ex West Sussex private collection.

Points like this would have been used to tip spears and darts thrown using atlatls (spear throwers). In North America, the best evidence suggests that bows and arrows were not introduced until about 1400 years B.P.
