Description: A North American Indian fawn chert side notched serrated point, a chip to the point and some small inoffensive edge chips, and some minor iron staining, otherwise condition good.

Size: 54 mm/2.1 ins. in length

Culture: American Indian

Date: Probably Early Archaic period, c. 9500-6500 years B.P.

Provenance: From a Sussex private estate.

Points like this would have been used to tip spears and darts thrown using atlatls (spear throwers). In North America, the best evidence suggests that bows and arrows were not introduced until about 1400 years B.P.
