A Neolithic flint scraper found near Folkestone, Kent, in 1928

Description: A dark gray flint scraper of thickened form distal to, and tapering to, the retouched edges. Bifacially worked with an area of cortex remaining. The implement attached by tape to an annotated card and described as an ‘implement approaching the segmental or ‘tea-cosy’ type’. The card foxed with losses to two corners. Found near Folkestone, Kent, in 1928.

Size: Scraper 45 x 47 mm/1.8 x 1.9 ins., annotated card, 60 x 92 mm/2.4 x 3.6 ins.

Culture: Neolithic

Date: c. 3rd Millennium B.C.

A nice example of the careful recording of even minor artefacts by early 20th Century collectors.
