Description: A dark grey flint unworked ‘tortoise core’ with blue-grey patination and a large area of cortex remaining. The implement attached by tape to an annotated card and described as an ‘unstruck “tortoise core”, le Moustier type, but probably later’, in our view probably Mesolithic in date. The card foxed with corner wear. Found near Folkestone, Kent, in 1927.
Size: 45 x 47 x 38 mm/1.8 x 1.9 x 1.5 ins., annotated card measuring 38 x 76 mm/1.5 x 3 ins.
Culture: Probably Mesolithic
Date: c. 10000-4000 B.C.
A nice example of the careful recording of even minor artefacts by early 20th Century collectors.
