Description: A small bright blue glossy faience ushabti, the mould-made mummiform figure cursory modelled as is typical for the type, but complete with attractive colour. Small patches of encrustation on the rear of the head and foot and the faience on the nose worn, otherwise condition good.

Provenance: Ex Julian Bird Collection (his inventory number 690) and acquired from the dealer Alan Cherry of Ancient Coins and Antiquities, Bournemouth, in 2012, and previous to Bird in a West Midlands private collection.

Background: Julian Bird was a passionate collector of Egyptian antiquities, who built up a fine and extensive collection from the 1970s onwards. He sourced his items mainly from the UK market, from specialist dealers, fairs, markets and auctioneers. He was a model collector, carefully documenting his collection, and his notes on this particular item will be supplied to the buyer.
