A North American Indian Archaic stemmed point

Code: 2544

£24.00

Description: A triangular dark grey flint stemmed point, slightly asymmetric in shape and with an oblique base, a body chip near the lower edge on one side, but a nice example.

Size: 41 mm/1.6 ins. in length

Culture: American Indian

Date: Archaic, c. 8000-4500 years B.P.

Provenance: Ex West Sussex private collection.

Points like this would have been used to tip spears and darts thrown using atlatls (spear throwers). In North America, the best evidence suggests that bows and arrows were not introduced until about 1400 years B.P.
